GENERAL INFORMATION

The Department of Biology at the Cumhuriyet University is one of the well recognised department in Turkey and devoted to the study of whole organism biology. Currently, it has 25 teaching staff, and offers BS, MSc and PhD degrees. The department is organised under four sections: General Biology, Zoology, Botany and Molecular Biology, and each section is responsible for teaching different aspects of organisms. The department provides modern research and teaching techniques. The BS degree requires four year full-time study (eighth semesters) including compulsory and elective courses. For qualification of the degree a successful compilation of a research project is also required from senior students. Field studies and trips are organised for junior and senior students by the department. MSc and PhD degrees are offered on the base of elective courses and theses dissertation. Research activities of the department focuses on several major areas: faunal and floral characteristics of the Anatolia , phylogenetics and biogeography, cytogenetics, population genetics and polymorphism, plant biotechnology and hydrobiology.
